This quality art museum happens to be the oldest art museum in the American West and boasts a fine collection of European, Asian and Californian art. Prominent works at Sacramento's Crocker Art Museum include The Great Canyon, Yosemite, an 1871 piece by Thomas Hill, and Sunday Morning in the Mines, an 1872 painting by Charles Christian Nahl which depicts life and aspects of the city's mining days. The museum's lobby and ballroom are also of special interest, with original 19th-century woodwork and plaster moldings visible.
